Type of a scam Employment
I was contacted by "Billy" via text to paint the exterior of a house in SW Albuquerque. He said his agent would meet me at the house so that I could do an estimate, but when I arrived I was surprised to find no agent present and to see that the house was for sale. I did the measurements and sent an estimate anyway, and Billy responded that he would like me to start work in a week. I said I would prefer to meet in person first, and Billy responded that he was at the Marine Base Camp in North Carolina and would send a check for payment. I asked about the for sale sign and he said he had bought the house a few months ago and wanted to change the exterior color. At this point I contacted the listing realtor, who said he was unaware of the owner hiring anyone to paint the house and also that he had no knowledge of anyone named "Billy" associated with the house.
Billy has said that the check is in the mail and that he is also scheduling other work on the house. I assume that at some point there will be a request for me to send money to someone else, but this has not yet happened and I am ceasing contact with him.
