Called the number back that called. Answered with a recording that asked to press a # for the dept. you wanted. Promotions was connected to me, Guy told me that i would get reduced monthly bills. I had to pay with eBay gift cards, because AT&T partner with them to promote the offer tha their gift cards. Sounded good. Gave me a list of the stores close to me that had eBay cards. Got $500 in ebay cards from Rouses, called the number got a different call center person. He said before he took the card numbers, he wanted to make sure that the channels were added. Turned on TV, Showtime had been added, so has additional channels. Said OK now he would take the numbers on the cards. Hung up. Later I got a text saying there was problem with eBay. He would reimburse these cards, get 3 larger denomination and call back. I should have stopped there, but got taken for another $480… Of course these numbers would not go into the system would send a check to reimburse, but would need more cards. NOW! the light finally dawned on me. SCAM. Checked with ATT and changed pin and security code. Showtime had been added, They removed it and flaged my account. Just feel stupid!

Scammer called (initially from 888-879-1756 number) my father, who is over 70 years old, and offered to give him a 50% discount on Direct TV service. They offered to also include several premium movie channels like HBO, Cinemax, Star, Showtime & American Hero for free. They required him to first go to Kroger, Wal-mart, or any retail store and buy 3 E-bay gift cards for $200 apiece ($600 total).

Then he was told to call 888-879-1281 & give the numbers on the face of the gift cards to the rep on the phone. My father felt that this was odd and called me. We called the number he was given and I asked questions about this promotion. The rep wanted me to give him my telephone number and when I wouldn’t he quickly and abruptly ended the call. I believe this was someone trying to take money from my father fraudulently. Please check into this so no one falls victim to this scam. Thank you.

Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill

Dear Sirs:

I would like to ask you about a situation that I find myself in at present. I got a phone call from someone purporting to be from ATT/Direct TV. I was given an offer to reduce my ATT/Direct TV monthly bill to $65.00 a month for the next three years. In order to take advantage of this offer I had to pay for the first year in a single payment. I said I needed to talk with my wife and hung up. We agreed to get more details and I called back.

Note: The number I called was 888-879-2755 and had a very official ATT sounding phone tree.

When I call back I talked with Chris and found that the promotion was being offered in conjunction with Ebay and to take advantage of the offer, I had to pay with Ebay gift cards. At this point my wife and I were going to hang up and have a good laugh, but while we were discussing this, Chris was able to change our ATT/Direct TV settings so that we were now getting all the channels included in the promotion. Would someone running a scam have access to ATT/Direct TV programming and be able to make changes to our programming? We were convinced.

I went to CVS and purchased four $200.00 gift cards and returned home and called Chris at ATT/Direct TV and gave him the numbers on the Ebay gift cards. Everything was settled and we were covered for TV and Internet service for the next 12 months.

This morning at 11:31 I got a text message from ATT/Direct TV telling me there had been a “Transaction Error” with my Ebay payment and to call 888-547-9069 to resolve the issue.

When I called ATT/Direct TV I was told that something had gone wrong with the payment and that I needed to make another payment in order to take advantage of the promotion. I needed to make that payment before 6:00 PM today. Once I made that payment, ATT/Direct TV would refund my original payment of $800.00 and include an additional $50.00 as compensation for my trouble. After much back and forth conversation, I asked to speak to Chris’s manager. I was told that I could speak with John Key who was a Billing Manager. Unfortunately, Mr. Key told me the same thing. My original $800.00 payment was lost and that in order to take advantage of the promotion I had to get another $800.00 in Ebay gift cards and call back before 6:00 pm today or my account would be suspended. BUT once I made the additional $800.00 payment, ATT/Direct TV would return my original $800.00 payment with the additional $50.00 compensation. When I asked if they could simply return the $800.00 with no compensation without my making a second payment, I was told that only people taking advantage of the Ebay promotion could get their lost payment back. At this point I offered to contact the Better Business Bureau and Mr. Key told me if I was going to threaten him, he was going to have my account suspended. Then I hung up.

After cooling off, I called back and asked Mr. Key to return our account to the status before all of this started and he agreed to do that.

At this point we are out $800.00. Additionally, I am not sure of our ATT/Direct TV status.

HELP!

I received a call from the above number on Christmas Day from a woman named Carol Humphrey claiming to be from A T & T/Direct TV. She offered me a reduced rate on my already bundled services of internet, tv and landline. What she offered me appeared to be a better deal so I told her I would sign up. She asked for a debit/credit card number. I gave her a credit card number. She gave me a confirmation number and told me to wait for an email confirmation, which I have never received. I called the number back to ask about the confirmation. They told me it would be 48 hours before I received a confirmation, which I thought was odd. I then told them I wanted to cancel the order and they hung up on me. I called A T & T/Direct TV and they stated that it was a scammer calling me not A T & T/Direct TV. I then called my credit card company and canceled my card. I haven’t lost any money but think others should be made aware of this scam.

Called from 1-800-571-5000 identifying themselves as representative of att/direct tv. Offering half off price and additional channels. Touted an Amazon affiliation, using Prepaid Amazon gift card to pay 4-5 months in advance. In my case would have been $360 by contacting one of the two following numbers; 1-800-770-6370 or 1-888-588-8639.

They also touted a two year contract at this half price rate. They almost had me. Hope they get caught.
