Three weeks ago we received a call that purported to be from AT&T/Direct TV (our internet and cable TV provider). It offered an upgrade to our current service that would include premium channels at a 50% discount from our current contract. We needed to pay six months in advance, using E-Bay gift cards because "E-Bay is sponsoring this promotion."
The caller left a message. When we called the number, it sounded very convincing, but became suspicious when it had to be done that same day, and they needed the last four digits of the Social Security number of the primary account holder.
We hung up, called AT&T, and they knew nothing about such a promotional program.
Today we got the same phone message.
