Received a telephone solicitation call from 1-888-288-2020 (AT&T’s actual toll free number is 1-800-288-2020) from a supposed AT&T Direct TV agent with an Ebay promotion offering of $149.99 per month for the forthcoming year if the first two months were paid for using an Ebay pre-paid gift card in the amount of $300. Was told to purchase gift cards at any local grocery store and also some local retail stores. After purchase I was told to contact AT&T at the following Billings and Promotions phone number: 1-888-606-2063 to provide the Ebay gift card information. Calling either of the provided telephone numbers results in the familiar AT&T welcome and voice prompts. I unfortunately realized it was a phone scam two days later when I again received my monthly AT&T/Direct TV service charges. Upon calling back the 1-888-606-2063 phone number to inquire about the charges the fake service agent began to act as though he was researching the issue but shortly after answering and conversing the line then goes quiet and no further responses are received from the agent. Attempting to call the same 1-888-606-2063 phone number again results in the familiar voice prompts however selection of the option to talk to the agent results in another prerecorded message that the agent at 7777 is unavailable, and any further phone calls are subsequently blocked when calling from the same phone number. I called the same phone number again using another phone number and the fake agent answered the phone as normal with the same result, however the line goes quiet after short discussion and no further responses are received. I made several more successful attempts to contact the fake AT&T agent through the use of the mobile phone app to purchase new/alternate phone numbers and after becoming a bit threatening, engaging in some tense conversation and my telling them I knew of their location the fake agent laughed told me he was actually located in Denver, Colorado.

On 12/22/18, I was called by a legitimate AT&T number. I was offered 2 years of Direct TV at a reduced rate if I paid 3 months ahead using eBay gift cards. I knew it sounded too good to be true, but they had a special promotion code and told me that they were losing customers and this was a special offer. Special, all right! I lost $300. I read about scams often and should have known, but this operation was slick.

I called AT&T today to ask about my offer–of course, they searched and searched and found nothing. I reported to them as a scam and also canceled my credit card. I’m embarrassed that I fell for it!

Received many calls from stating they were AT&T Direct tv working with Amazon to help promote their gift cards. They want you to buy an Amazon Gift card from any merchant. They want you to load up $329.97( $109.99 X 3)on an Amazon gift card then call 88830191087 with a special code to get offer. Pay the $329.97 upfront then in 3 months the bill will continue to be the $109.99 for 2 years. They said this is completely legit and we can call to verify. When I called the # 8005315000(they called from) it says it is AT&T Direct TV so I spoke with a representative this is AT&T that switches over from Direct tv. I confirmed this was a scam with AT&T Direct tv that routes calls thru their 800# it look legit but it’s not.
