It stated to press number 1. I do not have the phone number it came from. It threw me that they called my landline.

I was recently scammed with fraudulent charges as I was coerced to buy gift cards by some scammers posing as Apple Computer Tech Support. I received a phone call on 1/27/20 from a caller who identified themselves as Apple Support from an actual phone number that belongs to Apple Headquarters Support Department. He told me that my iCloud account had been hacked and that my information had been made available on the internet and the 429 hackers had already tried to get into my account. At first I didn’t believe this was a legitimate call and I told him so. He told me to check the Apple web page and see that the phone number was really Apple, which I did. He told me in order to remove all these hackers I would have to obtain gift cards from companies in my area who are their partners in this in order to eliminate these hackers. Since I wasn’t a corporate client, this was the only way to get rid of the hackers and that Apple would reimburse me every penny. I again questioned him and said I didn’t believe him and he put me in contact with a manager, Alex Bailey, who was the Account Security Manager who would be working with me to eliminate these hackers. He told me that the only way they can work on these was to have these specific gift cards which Apple would reimburse me for. I had recently been hacked on my email as friends received bogus requests for money emails so I believe him.
After I made one charge on Citibank, they immediately sent me an email that looked exactly like emails I have received from Apple in the past showing a reimbursement to my Citibank account. I was asked to make more gift card purchases to eliminate more hackers that were still accessing my account. Every time I did this they sent me an email showing reimbursement from Apple. Also Alex told me to check information on Google that referred to IOS 13.3 showing that Apple was working with their customers to eliminate these hacking issues, which I did read an article from Forbes that Apple was having issues with their operating system.
I kept questioning Alex and he kept giving me legitimate information of problems with Apples new Catalina operating system which I had just downloaded.
I did call the real Apple number during the time I wasn’t in contact with them but, unfortunately, the recording at Apple kept telling me my agreement was out of date and I was not covered to access Apple Support. I also realized that I should not have continued with these gifts cards but they convinced me that my computer was still under the control of these hackers.
I have reported this scam to the local police and the Federal Trade Commission but I see that no further action has come from this.
I am 74 years old and a widow living on a fixed income of Social Security and still working part-time to cover my monthly expenses. These thieves scammed me out of $11,000. I have asked the two banks that were involved- Citibank and Capital One, but they have said that this was not a fraud transaction because it was made by me and that I am responsible for these charges.
This is a devastating issue for me financially. No matter what I told these thieves that this was a scam, they countered with legitimate reasons why it wasn’t.
I was hoping that these two banks would work with and forgive these charges but I have been turned down and don’t know what I can do next. I have paid $1,000 back on one of the accounts as the bill came due today but without some action from these two banks, I’m afraid my financially situation is in a critical situation as these bills are due in a week or so. Can you do anything to assist me with these two banks? What can I possibly do to have some assistance to have these two banks realize this is fraud?

On your question on whether they received any of my personal information, I’m sure they did as they asked me to let them stay on my computer overnight to work on eliminating the hackers.

Getting numerous calls from this phone number to our landline but we do not answer… in fact we don’t even have a phone hooked up right now since we are now exclusivly using our cell phones. We can see the call attempts on our television screen and our call log is recording the date / time of each attempt. Call attempts are coming in at a pace of about three per hour.

I was instructed to call back so that Tech Support could help troubleshoot and repair the problem. One consumer reported that the number on her caller id was 408-606-5775, while she was asked to call back using 844-889-9156.
They have called 5 times in the last hour alone….

My computer froze and started glitching and an Apple support number came on, which I called and talked to an Indian man, who investigated and showed me my computer text code that it had been hacked. My insurance had expired so he said I had to buy a gift card and pay for the new insurance via gift card for him to run the software to protect the computer. Two months later, they called me again and said I had another hacker, which I was much more cautious too. I googled Apple support, called that number, and they detected right away that it was a scam and they made sure malewarebytes was protecting my computer. Extremely upsetting and disturbing.

I received a phone call identified as Apple Inc. Since my mother in law had been a victim of such call just a few weeks ago, i decided to keep the caller on the line and took notes of his request.
He told me that my system has been corrupted by virus.

I received a phone call from Apple Inc twice this morning. The first time I did not pick up the phone. They called back at 10:57 am. Normally I do not pick up these calls, but I was wondering why they called again. When I picked up the phone someone who could not speak english very (He had a foreign accent) he told me there had been a breach in our Apple account. Then He said that he needed some personal information. I could not understand him that well, so I asked him "personal information"? Then I said "no" and hung up on him. I want to report this so that hopefully this does not happen to anyone else. I never give out my personal inforamation on the phone. Thank you for your help with this matter. They just called again at 11:46 am as was completing this report.

Keep getting calls every half hour, claiming my icloud had been hacked. After endless calls I decided to speak to "support" and told them "you need to stop calling this number!" The woman remained silent for a couple of seconds before hanging up on me. Do not give these people access to ANYTHING!
