Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I placed an ad on Craigslist for Indianapolis for a bicycle i have for sale. A woman contacted me via text message and said that they loved the bike and were willing to purchase it at full asking price, site unseen. However, they were moving from Indy to somewhere in Ohio and would have to have their movers pick it up on the way. In addition, they were going to overnight priority next day mail a cashiers check to me. Now since the movers had to make stops now they had to pay them more and thats why the check was so much of an overpayment. The bike was $200 and the check was written off Genoa Bank in Genoa Ohio for the amount of $2,485.40. I was to deposit it and take my $200 and give the rest to the carrier service that was to pick up the bike. This all sounded way too unrealistic to me so I emailed the bank (awaiting response after weekend). Im not going to do anything with it but throw it away. I have enough problems, i dont need to owe the bank a couple thousand on top of it.
