Type of a scam Home Improvement

I listed a construction project on the "Smith" website. This company provided my info to this scam artist. He contacted me via text messaging masquerading as a building contractor. We discussed the project for nearly three days and he agreed to do the work. He asked for a down payment that he said he required in order to begin work, and when I told him that we would have to make up a legally binding contract prior to any money exchange he became angry, started calling me rude names, and flat out admitted that he was only after the deposit money and the whole thing was a con game. He was using the telephone number of a closed down Alexander Roofing Company that he was issued with his new AT&T cell phone after the Roofing company closed down and had their phone turned off. It was kind of slick, as when you checked the telephone number it was connected to a company of the same name, and the company also was listed on the BBB site. It all looked legitimate, and had I been daft enough to give up the $63,000.00 he was asking for without demanding that we have a legally binding contract in place before I would pay any deposit, I would’ve been robbed, and possibly harmed or even killed if I had actually gone to meet with him in person, with the money, as we had planned that evening.
