Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
Got an email from a person claiming to be a casting director named Alexander Castro. He wrote proposing a "unique opportunity" of a crypto currency commercial and offered a large sum of money. Initially, this sum was described as $*** with $*** up front for a clothing allowance – which should have been a red flag already. The email I received when I ‘got the job’ changed this amount and said I’d be getting A check for $*** from which a $*** ‘booking payment’ fee would be deducted up-front. As an actor who recently joined a new casting website, I assumed I had submitted for this commercial when I received the first email, and sent in my head shots and two photos as requested. I also gave my home address (not so wise of me), references, and social media account information, which I’m now pretty sure was used to vet targets who look like they might have money in the bank. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but once I received the ‘acceptance’ email, the fishiness became apparent. I googled his name, which led me to this BBB scam. Apparently, how it works is they’ll send you a fake check, then send you to a fake fashion website to purchase your wardrobe. The check will never clear, and you’ll be out however much you spent on this website (and they’ll get your credit card info, presumably). Here’s the contents of the first email I received:

In addition, we drive regional commercial film and television production and attract inward investment by promoting the region as a base for incoming film and TV production.
We are casting models and actors for an upcoming commercial shoot for "World Convention for Crypto currency Mining 2018" involving our client Trade.com (Spain). TRADE.com is a trade name operated by Lead capital Markets Ltd, which is authorized and regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, license number 227/14. They also follow very strict guidelines with regards to clients’ funds, ensuring they are kept in reputable Tier 1 banks and at all times segregated from the company’s own funds. Additionally, TRADE.com offers a Compensation Fund that will protect investments, and a high standard of account management service to explain all issues pertaining to trading and risks (Forex).
SYNOPSIS : It is our sincere effort to seek to enhance the performance of the financial investment system, and improve the overall finance and well-being of the people we serve, and their communities. We work with financial professionals and other key partners to expand access to high quality trade investments, so you can get the finance you need at an affordable investment.
PURPOSE OF THE SHOOT :
1. A commercial to show Crypto currency mining by top trading companies. Also to show the Diversity and inclusion embedded in trade.com core values along with integrity, quality, innovation and social responsibility which together, are necessary to fulfill their vision of helping people live better with a sense of financial freedom.
2. To assure the community of a completely affordable investment services, which will help them and their families to have a better financial life.
