Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I found this scam on my university’s (*** online) job placement services pngage. I am uncertain how it got through as it did, as it may have potentially targeted several other students. I responded to "AICOM’s" request for part time jobs, via what I now believe to be a fake Career Builder information website where you provide your contact information. Several days later, I received a text from a "Mr. Raymond Morgan", their "recruitment coordinator". He instructed me that I’d receive a mailing in the post with a check and instructions. As it turns out, 8 days later, I received two (2) checks in the amount of $2,985 USD each, totalling $5,970. I was instructed to spend (2x) $1,400 for an Apple store gift card and another (2x) $1,200 for another one (4 total cards totalling $5,200 USD). I was instructed that my salary would be $330 each USD for each check ($660 USD total). The additional $110 USD left over ($55 each check) would be used for another task that I would be informed of after I made the purchases. Unfortunately for me, I’d deposited the checks into my checking account at my credit union, but decided to wait to see (even though the funds were immediately available) if this truly were a scam, understanding that it could take up to 10 days for those checks to clear my account.
