Type of a scam Phishing
I was looking to buy a puppy. I found an e-classifieds ad in Edmonton selling Italian greyhound puppies for free because, purportedly, the guy’s sister who was taking care of them died and they could not care for the puppies at this time without her. My parents are located in BC and offered to come pick up the dog. The correspondent then informed us that they had to move to Halifax and so would ship the dog to my home. They told us about this shipping service and said they took the dog there right away to ship her. I then received an email from the (I suspect) fake business informing us that the company was under a 2018 audit currently and therefore we’d have to send shipping payment as soon as possible to them through western union in order for them to ship the dog to us. They asked me to send the money to a Goertz Oelofse in Brownstone Michigan, USA, 48134. This stood out as rather suspicious to us so we emailed the person back and asked if a family member could pick the puppy up for us instead of going with the shipping method and we have not heard from them since. They were so quick to respond and communicate before that this seems like a big red flag and leads me to suspect that this whole thing has been a spearphishing scam with the intent to steal money via wire transfer.
