Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

The first thing I remember is receiving a text message asking if I was still interested in the survey work. I replied yes. (Note: I had been recently searching online for part time or work from home opportunities). A couple of days later I received and email stating that I had been selected to become a secret shopper and that I would receive a priority mail envelope containing instructions for my assignment. The email also contained a USPS tracking number and was signed by Paul Phillips Shopper Scheduler/Coordinator (251)237-1042. The priority mail envelope arrived and in it was a check in the amount of $2306.30 and a letter. The letter stated that this package contained the assignment regarding the secret shopper program I had signed up for. The letter instructed me to deposit the check into my bank and deduct $350 for "my evaluation services" for this survey. I was also instructed in all capital letters to send an email to: [email protected] acknowledging receiving the package received along with check’s bank name check number and check amount. The letter further instructed me to withdraw the remaining amount from my account the next day to begin my first assignment as a mystery shopper. My assignment was to purchase 10- $200 Ebay gift cards from the chain stores listed in the letter. I was instructed to visit 2 to 3 stores to give them a "better comprehensive report". Afterwards, I was to scratch off the label to reveal the code and send a photo of the front and back of the card to the email address I sent the acknowledgement. Once this was completed I would be sent an evaluation form and my next assignment would be prepared. Unfortunately, I did deposit the check via my mobile device. Lucky for me I keep a record of all opportunities I apply for. So, when I couldn’t find this company I became suspicious and went on line to investigate. Later, I called the bank and told them that I think I just deposited a fraudulent check.
