Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I use an app called rover and a woman named kayla texted me saying her boss needs a dog sitter and gave me her email. i emailed her and she was giving me all of this information about caring for her dogs and gave me her number so it will be easier to reach me. she was then saying that she was going to send me a check to keep some money and send the rest to a company for their fridge and kitchen stuff. it was a $1,950 check. my mom and her friend looked everything up and it didn’t seem right. i even checked back with my messages between kayla and on her account it said that that user is put under investigation or something. so i got the check in the mail and we called companies and didn’t send it in and now here i am. so don’t trust rover!!

An account reached out to me via Rover (dog sitting app) swing please contact my boss via email to dog sit. I reached out and we emailed for a couple days then she requested my name, number, and address for a check to be sent to get some necessities as they were moving from CA to TX. I had sent my address name and number not realizing it was a scam then found out a day later. I have not received a check yet as they are supposed to “mail” it, but I will never cash it now that I know.
