A1 concrete and tree service

Jennifer – Oct 24, 2020

We also hired this company to cut down trees and remove all brush from this property. Agreement was made, contract signed for the work to be done. Down payment of 1200.
Was given to start job. They did clear the area but left all the brush piled along driveway with so many promises to come back and cleanup the job. Several calls were made even promised to return some of the money so we could pay someone else to clean up. We are retired seniors! Very disturbing they can look you in the eye and lie right to your face! Do not hire this company for anything!

Type of a scam Home Improvement

On 21 Jan 2020 hired A1 concrete and tree service to remove trees, clear lot and install cement culverts. As of today 24 Feb 2020 the only work performed is the delivery of 2 of 4 cement culverts and the partial clearing of the lot. His price for this job was 2600.00 dollars with a 1500.00 dollars for a down payment. With an additional payment of 200.00 dollars on Jan 16th 2020. From that date I have tried unsucessfully to either have him finish the job or return my money. All I am getting is excuse after excuse of him returning my money. After investigating I have found out that he has operated under other business names using the same phone number with an address of 1905 wordsworth dr. and getting the same complaints.

  1. Contracted A1 Concrete and Tree Service to pour a 24’x24′ concrete pad for a garage. Joshua Johnson looked at the job site and sent me a quote by text. We met at the site the next day to sign a contract. The price went up $250 from the quote. Still a decent price for the promised work, so I agreed and paid 50% deposit. They were supposed to install 3’8″ rebar on chairs the next day. One guy showed up with a few wire panels and laid them flat on the ground. I called Joshua and he said he would make sure “it was done right”. I went home for lunch and returned a couple hours later. Found a few more wire panels laying flat on the ground inside the forms. No rebar, nothing tied together, no chairs, and only covering about 30% of the pad. The guy was already gone (and had taken come scrap copper I had near the pad). I called Joshua again. He said his guy told him the job had been “done right”. He then said he’d take the rebar part of the contract off if I would do it myself. I spent the rest of the day fixing his screw up. Joshua said he had 7 1/2 yards of concrete coming the next day. I told him he should have ordered a little more, since the calculation came out exactly 7.5 yards (you always order a little extra), but he said he was only getting and charging the 7.5 yards. The next day they ran out of concrete and had to order one additional yard. He told me it cost him $575 for that yard, when in fact it cost him $297. He then said I owed him more for the extra 1 yard that had to be finished. My contract said “pour 24’x24′ pad, slick finish with rented power trowel, install rebar on chairs”. They didn’t have/rent a power trowel and did a marginal job of troweling by hand. I paid for the extra 1 yard of concrete, even though it should have been part of the job (as stated in the contract). I ended up paying him $800 in labor for pouring the pad and doing a marginal job of finishing. I would not pay him the extra $400 he wanted for the “extra work” he claimed. He spent the next 20 minutes berating me for “robbing” him. He worked 1/2 day, got the materials all paid, and still got $800 for those 4 hours of labor. I had to install my own rebar support, and ask my neighbor to help me, working well into the night so we could pour the next day. This company DOES NOT come through with their promises, and they DO NOT do a very good job. They are not honest, and will take advantage of you. I should probably have refused to pay the remainder and taken them to court. DO NOT use these people for any projects.
